Ways to style your home with mirrors

Decorating with mirrors is a great way to make your space feel bigger, and maximise on light. I’ve found that a strategically placed mirror can have a big impact on a room, so here’s a few ideas to incorporate mirrors into your home.

Matching bedside table mirrors

First up is a practical idea as well as a stylish one. If you’re a fan of symmetry, adding a tall mirror above your bedside tables will add some balance, a focal point, as well as a practical place to check yourself out when you’re getting ready in the mornings.

Over the mantelpiece

This is a classic way of styling a mantelpiece. You can go down the traditional route, with a large leaning ornate mirror, or go for something with an unusual shape or a streamlined frame for a more contemporary look.

Leaning on the floor

This is a good option for if you have a bit of wall space you want to use up. Leaning a really large mirror casually against a wall is guaranteed to make a room look much bigger - just make sure it’s secured properly to the wall!

Mirrored kitchen splash back

This is a great way of introducing light into your workspace in the kitchen, as well as making your surface area seem much bigger. A mirror is a great choice for a splash back as it’s easy to keep clean, and can match your style whether you go for sleek and modern, or a vintage distressed look.

Mirrored furniture doors

Mirrored furniture doors are a great way to make a room bigger whilst also being practical, especially if you use them on a wardrobe. Either add a mirror to a couple of doors, or you can mirror each door.

I almost always add a mirror when I’m designing an entrance hall. Not only is it practical (you can check yourself one last time before you leave the house), but a lot of the houses I work on have narrow hallways, and this is a great way to make them feel a bit roomier.

If you’re going for a spa-like bathroom, then a large mirror is a must. It helps to reflect light around the room and adds a sense of luxury.

Finally - mirrors don’t have to just be for the inside! They can be so effective when used outside, a strategically placed mirror can make your garden look double the size.
