Interior design trends for 2024

I can’t believe we’re almost bringing 2023 to a close! Whilst I don’t believe in mindlessly following trends, at the end of each year it’s interesting to look forwards and see what we’re collectively gravitating towards in interior design.

As we’re living in a world which is craving positivity, it’s not a surprise that laid back colours and design which gives comfort and warmth are trending next year. Combined with a bit of self care in the form of luxury, I think this makes for an interesting blend. Here are the interior design trends set to shape our homes in 2024.

Minimaluxe is a combination of Japandi minimalism, and luxury. Think of soothing and light colour palettes, combined with natural and luxurious (but comfortable) textures.

This design style definitely follows the rule that “less is more” - with fewer yet higher quality items, light filled rooms, and furniture which makes a statement and has room to breathe.

Whether or not that’s actually achievable in an actual lived-in home, I’m not sure… but hey it’s nice to look at.

Stainless Steel and Chrome

I personally always gravitate towards warm metals like brass, so this one is an interesting trend to me. Cool metals (chrome, stainless steel, silver) are coming back into fashion, particularly in the kitchen. LivingETC is blaming the TV show The Bear. It’s certainly a hard wearing and robust material and makes for a great kitchen sink, but we’ll see it also being featured in worktops and even cabinet fronts.

If a stainless steel kitchen feels a step too far for you (it does for me), it’s also being seen in lighting.

Warm Neutrals

I’ve read that beige is the new grey, and apparently in 2024 we’ll see all sorts of lovely light warm neutral colours in our homes - earthy tones, off-white, taupe and mushroom.

That doesn’t have to mean boring though! My post, How to stop beige looking boring has some tips. Lick has also had an interesting approach to this trend, combining it with other lively and brighter yellow-based neutrals in their 2024 colour palette of the year.

Textured Tiles

I love this trend, which sees natural and hand-made textures coming through in tiling. In particular Zellige tiles (handcrafted tiles which originated in Morocco) bring such a nice texture which bounces light around - we’ll see these all over the place in kitchen backsplashes and bathrooms.

Large Statement Pieces

Another nod to the “less is more” principle, it looks like in 2024 we’ll be spending less for more impact. This means a move away from gallery walls in favour of big statement pieces of art, and buying one or two pieces of statement furniture to be the star of the show - bonus points if they are unique and vintage.

Statement Floors

This is an interesting one, and I personally wouldn’t choose a flooring based on a trend. However, statement floors are in next year - think herringbone or chevron patterns, fun statement tiles, and more interestingly… dark and patterned carpets!

The “Spathroom”

And finally, this one doesn’t surprise me as I’ve already had a few spa bathroom briefs this year. Self-care is going to continue to be important to us next year, and we’ll continue to see a desire for the “spathroom”.

Think luxurious materials like quartz, stone, and marble, with classy thought-out details like lighting, tasteful storage and high quality fixtures.
