Autumnal accessories for a cosy home and where to buy them

The clocks have gone back, it’s getting darker… so rather than fight against the seasonal changes why not indulge in them? I for one love the Autumn and the cosy darker evenings. Here’s some ideas for bringing some Autumnal cosiness to your home this season.

I’m a big fan of a seasonal switch up… just wait until December as that’s when I’ll be getting all of my Christmas cushions out. A simple but effective way of bringing some of the colours of Autumn into your home is by switching up your cushion covers with warmer tones like rust, mustard and olive green.

My favourite places to buy cushions:

Cosy throws

Throw blankets are a must have addition to a cosy room, for the additional warmth and the soft textures. As with the cushions, going for a warm and Autumnal colour palette will help switch up the vibes and bring a cosy den feeling. Why stop at one throw? Layer them for maximum impact.

With darker evenings comes the opportunity to add some really nice ambient lighting into our homes. Turn off the overhead light and add some table lamps and floor lamps - make sure your bulbs have a warm light rather than cool, for that “relaxing by the fire” atmosphere. Fairy lights and candles will take the cosiness a step further.

Dried flowers, branches and foliage

Now I’m not saying that you should go out and start foraging in your local park for branches, but… you definitely could. I’ve been known to bring back twigs and other random bits of greenery to prop up in vases. If you’re less keen on that idea, dried flowers and grasses bring some Autumnal touch to your home, plus a lovely smell.

Swap art and prints

I do this at Christmas time - I have some festive prints which I store throughout the year, and then in December I swap them in with some of our artwork around the house. It doesn’t have to be as literal as “here is a print of some Autumn leaves” - even just switching the colour palette up will work.

Candles

And finally - the ultimate cosy accessory, candles. Don’t overdo it… mixing hundreds of candles and loads of throws and dried flowers is probably not the safest idea, but adding one really nicely scented candle will bring a lovely glow, and smell, to your space.
